Gaza – Head of Water Authority Eng. Mazen Ghunaim said that work is underway to complete the implementation of the plan approved by the Water Authority since the beginning of the Corona pandemic, which aims to ensure the safety of water and sanitation services and monitor them in all governorates of the homeland, especially in the Gaza Strip, after the recent increase in the number of people infected with Coronavirus was noticed, as quantities of chlorine were distributed in addition to the chemicals needed to enhance the capacity of the ed quantity seawater desalination plants in the northern, central and southern Gaza Strip, operating and raising their production to about 10,000 cubic meters daily during the next period.
During the coming weeks, quantities of fuel amounting to 135,000 liters will be distributed for the benefit of operating the three plants to enhance production processes in light of the chronic deficit in electricity in the Gaza Strip and to improve distribution programs, which will be reflected in the quality of water reaching more than 400,000 people in service areas and distribution stations in targeted areas in Gaza City, Deir El-Balah, Khan Yunis, and Rafah.
Eng. Ghunaim thanked all the supporting parties, in particular the Austrian Development Agency, which provided support worth 350 thousand euros to provide emergency budgets to ensure the provision of the necessary equipment and materials in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, stressing the importance of continuing this support for the water sector in Palestine to achieve water security. Eng. Ghunaim also called on all parties and service providers to commit to implementing the plan set by the Water Authority since the beginning of the Corona pandemic and to take all necessary precautions to provide safe water for citizens.
