Gaza: The Head of the Water Authority, Eng. Mazen Ghunaim held a meeting at the headquarters of the Water Authority, in Gaza city, with the Emergency Water Sanitation and Hygiene Group, health and representatives of civil institutions and organizations working in the water sector. The meeting aimed to discuss the recent developments regarding the damage caused to the water sector by the recent Israeli aggression, which has affected the infrastructure and the water and wastewater facilities.

Eng. Ghunaim affirmed that targeting water facilities and networks, directly or indirectly, is a crime and a violation of international law and treaties. This violation requires urgent action to be taken by the international community to prevent the Israeli side from attacking any humanitarian facility that affects the lives of citizens and targets their security and stability.

Eng. Ghunaim stressed the importance of unifying efforts and working with specific priorities in coordination with the Water Authority, establishing joint working mechanisms for cooperation, ensuring the complementary of work, maintaining the operation of treatment and desalination plants, repairing pumping stations, main lines, water and wastewater systems, and providing urgent assistance to citizens in the Gaza Strip.

During the meeting, the civil institutions and organizations reviewed the urgent intervention and support mechanisms they provided during and after the aggression, consisting of the provision of fuel and chemicals, equipment and maintenance, etc., for the operation of the main water and sanitation facilities.

Eng. Ghunaim praised the cooperation between the Water Authority and Emergency Water Sanitation and Hygiene Group, to prepare the damage report, which includes all accurate and detailed data and information to be provided to partners in the sector and to stakeholders.
