RAMALLAH:  The Water Debt Committee  headed by Water Authority and the membership of the Ministry of Local Government, Finance, Interior, Economy, Energy and the Secretariat of the Prime Minister formed by virtue of Cabinet resolution of 2015, met today at the Palestinian Water Authority.

The meeting discussed the report of the Technical Committee about the debt of the local bodies and Municipalities, which amounted to an average of one billion shekels.

The meeting focused on the appropriate mechanisms and solutions to the issue of the payment by the municipalities, by viewing the main recommendations in the Report of the Technical Committee, which focused on the importance of finding a clear mechanism for the debt collecting and compelling municipalities to apply these mechanisms, as well as to assist these municipalities to stop the infringements and improve the issues of collection process, and reducing the wastage through creating new water networks.

At the conclusion of the meeting the recommendations contained in the report were approved and It was assigned to the representative of the Water Authority and the representative of Ministry of Finance to contact  municipalities to begin to work on correction of their financial situation.
