Ramallah: In his meeting with the Board of Directors of the Water Sector Regulatory Council, the head of Water Authority Eng. Mazen Ghunaim confirmed that integration and concerted efforts among water sector institutions are the basis for developing the sector and facing current and future challenges.
At the beginning of the meeting, Ghunaim stressed the importance of the council's role as one of the institutions working in the water sector according to decision No. 14 of 2014 on water. He also stressed the need for the Council to take its supervisory role in monitoring water and sanitation service providers to ensure compliance with water policies issued by the Water Authority and related to water and sanitation services development, noting the importance of the council's role in preparing performance indicators reports for service providers. This is to provide the necessary information on the performance of service providers in preparation for taking the necessary correctional measures by the Water Authority, Ghunaim also touched on the importance of cooperation between the Water Authority and the council to develop an integrated database that includes financial, technical and administrative data for all service providers.
The meeting discussed in depth the basic tasks of the Council, during which Eng. Ghunaim presented the mechanisms and future steps of cooperation in activating and supporting the Council to carry out these tasks and overcome the obstacles and challenges in their implementation.
For his part, the chairman of the Board of Directors of the Water Sector Regulatory Council, Mohammed Abu Ramadan, appreciated the visit of the head of the Water Authority, praising his role in the water sector, and stressing the importance of the mechanisms put forward by Eng. Ghunaim to cooperate and work together to activate the Council's work and enable it to carry out its tasks in the best interest and the development of the water sector.
The meeting led to the formation of a joint committee of the two parties, which will set the general framework for cooperation immediately to apply the mechanisms of action in several central issues that are in the government's priorities and water policy.
