Ramallah, Thursday, The Board of Directors of the Palestine Water Company held its first meeting, headed by His Excellency Minister Mazen Ghunaim, following the decision of the Council of Ministers to form the Board of Directors of the National Water Company "Palestine Water Company."
The meeting was attended by council members: Mr. Ahmed al-Sabah from the Ministry of Finance, Ms. Manal Farhat from the Ministry of National Economy, Mr. Samir Dawabsha from the Ministry of Local Government, and Mr. Hani Najm, a water expert.
At the beginning of the meeting, Eng. Ghunaim confirmed his high confidence in the board of directors formed to achieve a qualitative start to support the establishment of Palestine Water Company.
The council members discussed the agenda, which included the reality of the water sector, its structure, what was implemented within the framework of the water sector reform process, and the programs for establishing the Palestine Water Company.
The meeting also reviewed the political, institutional, and financial challenges facing the water sector and measures taken by the Water Authority to reform the sector, including the establishment of the National Water Company and Regional Water Utilities. The justifications for the executive plan to rehabilitate the department and establish the National Water Company on the ground were also discussed.
The establishment of the National Water Company comes in accordance with a decision by law on the water - Article 37, which stipulates the establishment of a company specialized in the supply and wholesale of water for water utilities, local authorities, and joint water services councils.
