Cairo: Head of Water Authority Eng. Mazen Ghuneim participated in a session entitled 'Developing non-conventional water resources under scarcity conditions', which is being held at Cairo Water Week.
As President of the Arab Water Ministerial Council, Eng. Ghunaim focused on the global challenges in the field of water, highlighting the importance of developing alternative sources in the Arab region, as a strategic solution to address the difficult water situation in the region, where 12 countries are classified among the poorest in the world.
Eng. Ghunaim also talked about the development of alternative sources in Palestine, in light of the exceptional water situation, which is mostly caused by Israeli policies and its control over all water resources. He also pointed to the difficult situation in Gaza, which made the development of water resources an obligation, not an option, with the Palestinian government keen not to be a substitute for Palestinian water rights.
During his review of the existing reuse and desalination projects as a part of the Water Authority's plan, Eng. Ghuneim highlighted the challenges facing these projects and programs and pointed out their implications in providing important quantities to save our people in Gaza.
It is noteworthy that the session included several interventions and presentations by high-level speakers at the regional and international level, and came up with several recommendations that could be used in the future in the field of the development of alternative sources.
