RAMALLAH head of the water authority Eng. Mazen Ghoneim met today with the World Bank Mission at the end of its trip to the Palestinian territories to discuss the latest developments related to the water sector, and the prospects of future cooperation between the two parties, representatives from the Dutch Representative and the Swedish Representative, Norwegian Representative, and the German Development Bank KFW attended the meeting.
Eng. Ghoneim praised the World Bank role in supporting the water sector in its various aspects, stressing the important role of the Water Authority as the responsible of this sector and who is working to develop it, especially its role in the reform program, which aims to regulate the sector from different aspects.
Minister MazenGhoneim, mentioned the importance of the immediate support for commencement of the Central Desalination Plant in Gaza Strip and to agree on a timetable, pointing out that there is a meeting to be held in order to start providing the necessary financial support. Stressing at the same time on the cooperation between all donors to provide the necessary financial support and making the project materialize.
The meeting discussed also the current projects and future projects in the West Bank and Gaza, and most importantly the purification station project in Hebron and the urgent project for north of Gaza.
On the other hand, the delegation informed the Minister of Water about their other meetings during this visit, and also emphasized on the development of the performance of the Water Authority, along with the change in the internal structure of PWA and the developments within the reform program.
