Head of Water Authority Eng. Mazen Ghoneim met with the General French Consul Pierre Kochar, Director of French Agency Catherine Bono, in preparation for the international donor conference held in Brussels on 20 March, in order to start the project of the central desalination plant for desalination of sea water in Gaza at a cost of about $650 million.
During the meeting, Eng.Ghoneim praised the important role of the French Government in support of the Palestinian Government in General and the water sector in particular, and briefed them on the latest development in desalination plant project to achieve both the technical side of the central project through the delivery of tender documents and business design and attached to the station project and deliver the solar station site of the central desalination plant to the designated consultant , adding to the logistical aspects of readiness to secure the remaining funding for the project, which is estimated at around 200 million dollars.
Ghoniem urged the General Consul for attendance and active participation in the donors ' Conference, and stressed that the success of the conference means the success of all partners and supporters in Gaza protection of humanitarian catastrophe in 2020, according to all international reports.
In the same context, he met the economic development team manager in the British Development Agency to confirm the presence of Britain's participation in the conference and was briefed on the latest project, it also confirmed that projects implementation within the framework of efforts to achieve water security for more than 2 million citizens living in Gaza.
The meetings come as part of a series of intensive meetings held by Eng.Ghoneim with all international parties in order to stimulate their interest to attend and participate actively in the donor’s conference to start implementing the largest water project in Palestine.
