Ramallah - Head of Water Authority, Eng. Mazen Ghuneim, received in his office today, Mrs. Danielle Haven, Consul General of Belgium in Palestine, to brief her on the latest developments and the needs of the water and sanitation sector and discuss the possibility of the Belgian Government support for this service humanitarian sector.
Eng. Ghuneim briefed Mrs. Haven on a number of issues related to the development and future Water Authority programs , especially the practical steps being taken by the Water Authority to communicate with the countries that expressed interest in the program of the Central desalination plant as part of the completion of the procedures related for completing the funding for this strategic project, noting that at the end of the month a meeting will be held in Brussels in order to proceed with the implementation of the project in an integrated manner .
Minister Ghuneim explained to Mrs. Haven a number of aspects related to the work being done by the Water Authority, such as the start of construction of the southern carrier water pipeline, which is a phase of the project, as well as making decisions regarding the progress of the project, especially the desalination plant from bidding and qualifying companies and others.
The meeting also discussed all the issues and problems affecting the water sector and projects within the strategic plan, and the participation and Belgium support, especially in the case of the suspension of US support and withdrawal from the water sector and a number of projects remain under implementation.
For her part, Mrs. Haven expressed her appreciation for the great efforts made by the Water Authority to develop this humanitarian sector, stressing that the aspects and mechanisms that could be worked out to open prospects for future cooperation between the two countries will be discussed.
