Ramallah - Water Authority officially received its membership to the World Water Council, which is considered one of the most important international platforms operating in the water sector. The membership was based on the efforts exerted by the Water Authority and meetings held by the head of Water Authority, Eng. Mazen Ghuneim at the highest levels during his participation in both, the Moroccan Water Security Summit and Cairo Water Week, which was followed by the submission of membership forms, the latest of which was presented by Eng. Ghuneim at the last meeting of the Board of Trustees of the World Water Council, which included a review of the Palestinian water situation and the importance of Palestine's membership, providing basic proposals for future cooperation programs and initiatives. Eng. Ghuneim also responded to all inquiries and interventions during the session.
Eng. Ghuneim stressed that the Water Authority, through its membership in the Council, will benefit from the global political level that the Water Council focuses on in its work around the world, in finding effective international channels to claim Palestinian water rights and activate international laws and conventions. The Water Authority will also benefit from the international events organized by the World Water Council in mobilizing international support and transferring expertise and knowledge to develop the Palestinian water sector, especially the World Water Forum, which is chaired by the Council, which is the largest international event in the water sector in the world.
The Water Authority will also start communicating with the Council to study the possibility of creating special programs and projects for Palestine, particularly in the field of benefiting in the development of policies and strategies, and mechanisms to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, especially the sixth goal related to water.
The World Water Council is an international organization whose mission is to mobilize action on critical water issues at all levels, including the highest decision-making level, its headquarters in Marseille, France. It has 340 members. Together they form a unique network involving different sectors, regions, disciplines and professional fields with wide-ranging expertise and interests.
