Signing an agreement for the current response to emergency needs in the water sector in Gaza

Ramallah: Today, the head of the Water Authority, Eng. Mazen Ghunaim, signed an agreement with Ms. Jean Gough, the Director of UNICEF in Palestine, in the presence of World Bank Director Stefan Emblad. The agreement is regarding the current response to meet the emergency needs in the water sector in Gaza, funded by the World Bank with a financial amount reaching $7 million.

The project aims to provide 5,000-liter water tanks and distribute 10-liter water containers to displaced people in informal shelters in Gaza. It also includes supplying and distributing fuel to operate vital water and sanitation facilities for the benefit of the displaced in southern Gaza and central areas, along with providing and distributing personal hygiene items.

Eng. Ghunaim emphasized the importance of signing this agreement at this time as part of a series of grants supported by the World Bank for the water sector, particularly in Gaza, to alleviate citizens suffering, provide them with water as a basic right, and reduce the spread of diseases and epidemics.

For her part, Ms. Jean Gough highlighted the difficult humanitarian situation faced by the people of Gaza due to shortages of basic supplies and weakened resources. This requires cooperation and serious efforts to secure essential aspects of life, with water being a priority.

World Bank Director Emblad underscored the significance of this agreement and the importance of provding support in various humanitarian aspects, especially under the challenging circumstances we are witnessing today. He reaffirmed the importance of the efforts made by all parties to sustain life and protect citizens.
