Ghunaim visits “Al-Qarya as-Suwaydiya” west of Rafah and briefs on the needs of the residents

Gaza: The Head of the Water Authority, Eng. Mazen Ghunaim went today to "Al-Qarya as-Suwaydiya" west of Rafah province on the Palestinian-Egyptian border, where Eng. Ghunaim met with representatives of the People's Committee and was briefed on the needs of citizens in light of poor services and the lack of water and wastewater infrastructure in the village, which is inhabited by more than 1,000 citizens.

The suffering of the villagers extends back decades, as this area was the first place for the Palestinian population who came to it after the Nakba in 1948, and suffers from being deprived by the occupation of the establishment of adequate water and sanitation networks, and prevented the proper construction of houses, which has had major repercussions on the lives of the population since then.

The residents also faced several challenges due to the deterioration of the humanitarian and service situation, in addition to the damage to the main source of work, fishing, with the continued pumping of sewage into the sea, and the continuous erosion of its small beach at an accelerating rate, which threatens the lives of the residents and the future of the village as a whole.

Eng. Ghunaim stressed that the Government seeks to improve the living conditions of the citizens, especially in the marginalized areas, praising their steadfastness and defiance to preserve their land.
